IMLF News Literacy Day

One day each year when schools, families and journalists across India ask the six questions together.

How to take part

Schools

Run one session with the six questions, using the simple plan below or your own.

Families

Try the five-minute family routine: pick one post, ask three questions, decide together.

Journalists

Visit a nearby school and show how a real story is checked before it is published.

Everyone

Check one forward before you share it, and help one person do the same.

A simple plan for schools

  1. 1

Morning assembly. Introduce the six questions: Who, What, When, Where, Why and How. (5 minutes)

  2. 2

One class period. Students check a real headline or forward using the 5W1H toolkit.

  3. 3

After class. Students make a poster or short message that shares a checked fact.

  4. 4

At home. The five-minute family routine, led by the student.

Why a day?

We are starting small: one day that any school can fit into its calendar without extra load. It may grow as more schools join.

Partners

Schools, media houses and organisations can join as partners for the Day.
